Summary
Step into this Cleared Delivery Manager role and build something that matters in Defence & Government.
Defence and government programmes run on people who can hold complex delivery together under scrutiny, and security clearance is the price of entry, not a bonus. This particular business is an established SME, still growing, working on programmes where getting it wrong has consequences beyond a missed deadline. They need a Cleared Delivery Manager who's done this before and won't need their hand held.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Own delivery of programmes across defence and government contracts, from planning through to handover
Manage stakeholders across MOD, government departments, and internal teams, translating between technical delivery and non-technical sponsors
Track risk, budget and resourcing across multiple workstreams, flagging issues before they become problems
Run governance boards and reporting cycles that satisfy both commercial and security requirements
Coach project leads and junior delivery staff, building capability within the team as it grows
Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships where third parties are part of the delivery chain
Here are the skills you'll need:
Active SC clearance (or eligibility, with willingness to undergo vetting)
Solid track record delivering programmes within defence, government or another regulated sector
Comfortable running budgets, risk registers and resource plans without needing a template for every step
Strong stakeholder management. You can hold a room of senior sponsors and still get into the detail with engineers
Working knowledge of a formal delivery methodology (PRINCE2, Agile, or similar), applied practically rather than by the book
Calm under pressure. Government timelines shift and you need to adapt without losing the plan
Key perks and benefits:
Salary of £51,000 to £73,000, plus a bonus scheme tied to delivery performance
Hybrid working from Birmingham, with genuine flexibility around office days
Private medical insurance and a solid pension contribution
Generous annual leave, with structured processes that still leave room to manage your own week
Defined role with a clear path to grow as the company scales its defence and government work
Why pursue a career in Defence & Government?
Defence and government spending isn't going anywhere, and Birmingham has quietly become one of the UK's stronger hubs for this kind of work outside London. Programmes in this sector tend to run long, which means real career progression rather than jumping between short contracts. Good delivery managers are scarce here, cleared ones scarcer still, and that scarcity tends to reward people who stick with it.
