Summary
Could you be a Support Worker?
We're looking for a caring and motivated Support Worker to join our residential team at 85 Park Road in Accrington, supporting people with deafblindness and complex disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives.
This is a permanent, full-time role working 36 hours per week, with a salary of £13.00 per hour. You'll work day shifts from 8:00am to 8:00pm, including every other weekend.
At our Park Road residential service, we support five individuals with deafblindness, providing personalised care that enables them to make choices, develop their independence and enjoy the things that matter most to them.
As a Support Worker, you'll provide high-quality, person-centred support tailored to each individual's needs, preferences and support plan.
You'll help the people we support with everyday activities, encourage them to develop their skills and confidence and support them to access opportunities within their local community.
Communication is at the heart of what we do. You'll take the time to understand how each person communicates and adapt your approach to meet their individual needs. This may involve learning new communication methods, including signs, symbols and other approaches that help people express their choices and preferences.
The duties are varied and no two days will be the same. You may support people with personal care, mobility, health and wellbeing, as well as helping them take part in social activities, shopping trips and other experiences that are important to them.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Providing personalised care and support in line with individual support plans
Encouraging independence, choice and involvement in everyday decisions
Supporting people with personal care, mobility and health and wellbeing needs
Helping with everyday activities such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and managing daily routines
Supporting people to access their local community, social activities and leisure opportunities
Adapting communication methods to meet each individual's needs
Supporting people with their behavioural needs, following individual support plans and guidelines where required
Maintaining accurate records and sharing important information with colleagues
Working collaboratively with families, colleagues and other professionals to provide consistent, high-quality support
Promoting a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued
What we're looking for:
We're looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and committed to providing genuinely person-centred support.
You'll need:
Previous caring or support experience gained in a personal, voluntary or professional capacity
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
The ability to adapt your communication style to meet the needs of the people you support
A willingness to develop new communication skills, including signs and symbols where required
The ability to support people with their mobility and participate in activities alongside them
The ability to travel between locations during working hours when supporting individuals
Confidence using your own initiative and good judgement, including when working independently
A creative, person-centred approach to problem solving
Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills to support everyday activities and maintain accurate records
The ability to build positive working relationships with the people we support, colleagues, families and other professionals
A willingness to undertake all training relevant to the service and your role
Flexibility to work the required shift pattern, including every other weekend
Previous experience supporting people with sensory impairments, dual sensory impairments or those who use a range of communication methods would be an advantage, but isn't essential.
A driving licence and willingness to drive would also be desirable, but are not essential requirements for this vacancy.
Full training relevant to the service and your role will be provided.
