Summary
Commercial Manager (319lw) – Remote - £45,000.00 - £55,000.00 pa + car allowance + bonus + benefits
Our client is an established specialist SME supplying equipment and solutions to the UK MOD, specialist military users and Emergency Services. They are looking for a Commercial Manager to join their close-knit team and take ownership of key customer relationships, commercial opportunities and the sales process.
DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.
This is an opportunity particularly suited to a Service Leaver OR former military professional who understands the customer, the environment and the challenges faced by end users and who wants to put that experience to work in a commercial setting. Ex Royal Engineers /Engineers could be a very strong fit, particularly someone with a good technical understanding.
This is not a traditional, high-volume or cold-calling sales role. The emphasis is on account management and customer relationships with some business development, working with established MOD and government customers alongside a specialist international supply chain.
You'll understand customer requirements, build trusted relationships, identify opportunities and help develop the right equipment and solutions.
You'll also become involved in bids, procurement processes and longer-term opportunities - often working on projects where building the relationship and understanding the requirement comes well before the eventual purchase.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Manage and develop a portfolio of established MOD, military and Emergency Services accounts
Build strong relationships with end users, procurement and commercial stakeholders
Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and develop new areas of business
Support bids, tenders and negotiated procurement processes
Work closely with international suppliers to develop customer solutions
Provide product demonstrations and customer briefings where required
Translate customer requirements into practical equipment solutions
Develop relationships across the wider Army, Royal Marines, Police and Emergency Services markets
Attend customer meetings and undertake some UK travel
Contribute to the wider commercial and sales strategy of the business
We're particularly interested in people who have operated on the customer/user side of Defence. You could be a Service Leaver with experience in a specialist military environment, acquisition, equipment or capability development - potentially at Captain level or equivalent. Or you may already have commercial experience working with MOD, Defence, Police, Emergency Services or government customers.
You'll ideally bring
Military experience, particularly within a specialist or operational environment (Special Forces experience a huge benefit)
An understanding of Defence acquisition and procurement
Strong technical aptitude and an ability to understand specialist equipment
Experience managing customers, suppliers, projects or commercial relationships
Confidence dealing with senior military, government and end-user stakeholders
The ability to understand a customer's requirement and develop a practical solution
Experience or knowledge across areas such as electro-optics, thermal imaging, specialist clothing and equipment, load carriage, robotics or drones would be highly relevant.
You don't need to know everything on day one - product training will be provided.
The company is an SME, so your contribution will be visible. There's no large corporate structure or unnecessary bureaucracy - you'll have autonomy, responsibility and direct access to senior leadership. The role offers the opportunity to build on what you already know, rather than starting again.
Working pattern - Flexible working, ideally with office attendance typically around once a week or fortnight in Surrey, but client is happy to be flexible on this, depending on where you are located. Travel - Some UK customer travel required; this is not an on-the-road sales role
Please send a copy of your CV with a note outlining why this would be the ideal opportunity for you, to Liz Walsh at Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd or by email to liz@ex-mil.co.uk
