We’re looking for an experienced Bid Writer to join Serco’s UK & Europe Growth function and play a key role in developing compelling, customer-focused responses that help us win new business.

Working across bids for our Justice & Immigration, Citizen Services and Defence businesses, you’ll take ownership of assigned written responses from ITT release through to final submission. You’ll work closely with Solutions Leads, Workstream Leads, subject matter experts and Bid Managers to turn complex information into clear, persuasive and compliant proposals.

This is an opportunity to bring your bid writing expertise into a collaborative, high-performing team, with exposure to complex and strategically important opportunities across Serco.

What you’ll be doing

- Taking ownership of assigned written responses throughout the bid lifecycle, from storyboarding and drafting through to final submission.

- Developing compelling, customer-focused responses designed to maximise quality scores against evaluation criteria.

- Analysing customer specifications, ITT documentation and instructions to identify key requirements and ensure responses are fully compliant.

- Working closely with Solutions Leads, Workstream Leads and SMEs to gather information, challenge constructively and articulate Serco’s right to win.

- Understanding the customer’s perspective, including their requirements, challenges, opportunities and expectations around quality, deliverables and value for money.

- Applying Serco’s bid writing best practice and Playbook throughout the response development process.

- Participating in robust review and peer-review processes to improve the quality and effectiveness of bid responses.

- Maintaining a strong understanding of proposal management and bid writing best practice.

- Contributing to continuous improvement activity across Bid Writing, including case study development, Bid Library improvements and shared learning.

What you’ll bring

- A demonstrable track record of successful bid writing and winning in competitive environments, ideally on bids valued at £1m+.

- Experience of working on complex sales opportunities and applying structured proposal management processes.

- Public sector and/or outsourcing experience is desirable.

- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into compelling, persuasive and customer-focused narratives.

- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and communicate confidently and sensitively.

- The ability to work independently, take ownership and operate effectively with limited supervision.

- Strong organisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for developing your own capability while contributing to the development of the wider Bid Writing community.

Why join us?

As a Bid Writer at Serco, you’ll be part of a specialist Growth function that plays a critical role in securing the opportunities that shape our future. You’ll work on complex, high-value bids across a diverse range of markets and have the opportunity to collaborate with senior stakeholders and subject matter experts across the organisation.

The role also provides strong opportunities to broaden your experience and build your career within Serco, with a history of progression from Bid Writing into other areas of the business.

You’ll need to be flexible to travel when required, and Security Clearance up to SC level may be required depending on the opportunities you support.

If you’re an experienced bid writer who can combine excellent writing with commercial awareness, customer focus and the confidence to influence stakeholders, we’d love to hear from you.
