Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
The right support at the right moment can change everything.
Every school has pupils who need a little more. Not more worksheets. Not more consequences. Not more pressure. More encouragement. More understanding. More belief.
At Broadstone First School, we’re looking for a Learning Mentor who can be that person.
Someone who notices when a pupil has gone unusually quiet. Someone who understands that challenging behaviour is often communication. Someone who knows that confidence can be rebuilt, trust can be earned and that one positive relationship can completely change a young person’s experience of school.
This role is about helping children overcome the barriers that are stopping them from thriving.
Sometimes that might mean supporting a pupil who’s struggling emotionally. Sometimes it means helping a child develop the confidence to participate in lessons. Sometimes it’s simply being the trusted adult who listens, encourages and helps them believe that tomorrow can be better than today.
The difference you’ll make
• You’ll work with pupils who need additional support to succeed academically, socially or emotionally.
• You’ll help them build confidence, improve self-esteem and develop the resilience needed to navigate school and life.
• You’ll support pupils in classrooms, through one-to-one interventions, around the school environment and during important moments of transition.
• You’ll work alongside teachers, families, school leaders and external agencies to ensure every child receives the support they need.
• You’ll celebrate the breakthroughs that others might miss.
• The first full week of attendance.
• A hand raised in class.
• A difficult conversation handled well.
• A child who starts believing they’re capable.
• Because those moments matter.
The person behind the role
• We’re less interested in finding someone who can tick every box and more interested in finding someone who genuinely cares about young people.
• You’ll be patient, resilient and compassionate.
• You’ll be able to build positive relationships, remain calm when situations are challenging and understand the importance of consistency and trust.
• You may already have experience working with children, young people or families. You may have worked in education, youth work, support services or a similar role.
• What matters most is your ability to connect with young people and help them overcome the obstacles standing in their way.
Could this be your next step?
Some jobs are measured in outcomes. This one is measured in something much bigger.
The child whose confidence begins to grow. The young person who finally believes they can succeed.
If that sounds like the difference you want to make, we’d love to hear from you. Come and be the person who helps a child see what’s possible.
