We are recruiting an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Barking, working within its dedicated SEN Hub.
The school is looking for a confident and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant who can support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, communication difficulties, learning disabilities and SEMH needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN TA who enjoys working within a specialist provision while remaining part of a mainstream primary school environment.
Previous SEN experience is essential, and the school is keen to meet candidates who can provide consistent, individualised support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support primary-aged pupils within the school's dedicated SEN Hub
- Provide 1:1 and small-group SEN support throughout the school day
- Work with pupils displaying ASD, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual abilities and EHCP targets
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and social development
- Use visual timetables, structured routines and alternative communication strategies
- Encourage independence, confidence and positive engagement with learning
- Work closely with the SENCO, class teachers and specialist professionals
- Support pupils accessing mainstream classroom activities where appropriate
- Monitor and record individual pupil progress
Essential Requirements:
- Previous SEN Teaching Assistant experience - essential
- Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD or complex learning needs
- Confidence working within a specialist SEN provision or SEN Hub
- Understanding of EHCPs, differentiated learning and individual support plans
- Experience supporting communication and emotional regulation
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and SEN professionals
