Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
About the role
You will combine direct teaching with subject leadership, shaping a coherent, adaptable maths curriculum, and supporting colleagues to deliver it effectively. You will lead the maths improvement plan, review teaching and assessment, and use evidence of pupils’ progress to guide development.
Teaching will take place across hospital classrooms and wards, Compass, and home or community tuition as allocated. The role involves travelling between sectors and sites, including pupils’ homes. You will work with families, home schools, and clinical colleagues to adapt learning around pupils’ needs and support reintegration.
This is a varied environment where pupil cohorts, health needs, and timetables can change quickly. You will need to organise your work independently, respond flexibly, and know when to seek advice or support.
What we are looking for
• A qualified teacher with QTS, strong maths knowledge and evidence of effective teaching, including GCSE and the ability to support A-level mathematics.
• A proactive subject leader who can set priorities, follow through on improvements and work with limited direction.
• An innovative practitioner who creates engaging learning, evaluates what works and adapts approaches to improve pupils’ progress and confidence.
• A teacher who maintains high expectations while adapting lessons for interrupted education, SEND, physical illness, mental health needs, and EBSNA.
