Unpack a rewarding sales career with Macfarlane Packaging

At Macfarlane Packaging, we're in the business of protecting what matters - our people, our customers and the planet. With over 75 years of industry expertise, we combine stability with innovation in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. We're equally passionate about growing careers, and this is your opportunity to develop yours in a role where the relationships you build make a real difference to our sales success.

Your Role: Internal Sales Executive

Based in our Newcastle team, you'll work hand in hand with a field-based Sales Executive as part of a two-person team, sharing responsibility for a portfolio of customer accounts. While they're out on the road meeting customers, you'll be the voice of those accounts back at base: the first point of contact for enquiries, keeping orders moving, and making proactive outbound calls to existing, lapsed and under-utilised customers to uncover new opportunities.

This is a relationship-focused role rather than a telesales position, with a strong emphasis on understanding customer needs and providing ongoing support.

What You'll Be Doing

- Making regular outbound calls to existing, lapsed and under-utilised accounts to strengthen relationships and unlock up-selling and cross-selling opportunities

- Working towards sales targets alongside your field-based Sales Executive

- Coordinating responsibilities with your Sales Executive as a two-person team, providing support to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and effectively

- Dealing with day-to-day customer enquiries and providing timely, effective support in a busy office environment

- Developing and maintaining strong customer relationships by understanding what each customer needs

- Processing orders accurately and managing order progression through to delivery

- Using our CRM system (MS Dynamics) to track leads, update customer records and monitor sales activity

- Collaborating with our purchasing and logistics teams to ensure timely order fulfilment

What We're Looking For

Essential:

- A proven track record of making outbound calls and handling customer enquiries as part of a customer-focused role

- Experience of working to sales targets or KPIs

- At least 12 months' experience in an internal sales, sales support, account management or customer service role

- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with a friendly, professional manner

- Strong organisational skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced setting

- Confident using Microsoft Office and CRM systems

Desirable:

- B2B sales experience

- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics

- Knowledge of the packaging or distribution sector

Why Choose Macfarlane?

We reward your contribution with a competitive salary, bonus/OTE and a benefits package designed to support your work-life balance, including:

- 25 days holiday (rising to 27 with service) + bank holidays

- Flexible benefits, including enhanced pension and life assurance

- Wellbeing and employee assistance programmes

- Employee discounts, volunteering days and more!

Shape Your Future with Us

At Macfarlane Group, we empower our people with structured sales career pathways and continuous training, so whether you're building your sales experience or aiming for your next challenge, your future is bright with us.
