We have an ambitious and dynamic PE department committed to delivering high-quality teaching and inspiring pupils to engage, achieve and thrive across the curriculum. Our team of seven specialist teachers bring a wealth of expertise, combining traditional and progressive teaching methods to create a vibrant and inclusive learning environment.
The PE department benefits from an excellent range of dedicated indoor and outdoor facilities and offers a wide variety of sports, fitness and extra-curricular activities. Beyond the PE curriculum, the department plays an important role in the wider life of the school. The team works closely with our primary feeder schools, and engages with a wide range of cross-curricular work within the school.
The successful candidate will be keen to contribute to a culture where pupils are encouraged to participate, progress and take pride in their achievements. You will be passionate about developing extra-curricular sports for all abilities to inspire pupils to challenge themselves, improving their skills and discover an enjoyment of sport and physical activity both individually and as part of a team.
We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:
• Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils in order for them to excel academically
• Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and pupils
• Have excellent subject knowledge
• Be willing to teach across the full age range of pupils; year 7 to year 11
• Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
• Teach a standard timetable allocation
• Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Curriculum Leader
• Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of all children
• Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
• Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures
Person Specification:
• Good degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
• Thorough knowledge of the (11-16) subject Curriculum up to GCSE
• Recognised teaching qualification, such as QTS, PGCE, or equivalent experience
• Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice
• Good level of IT literacy
• Be capable of delivering inspirational and adaptive lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
• Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
• Have excellent and effective classroom management skills
• Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
• Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines
