WORKING HOURS: Up to 30 hours per week, year-round; for example, afternoons from 12:00pm to 6:00pm

JOB OVERVIEW

A genuinely unusual development opportunity gives the SEN Tutor / SEND Learning Support Assistant the chance to build specialist expertise through approaches that go beyond conventional tutoring, whether developing their SEN career or bringing broader existing experience.

The SEN Tutor / SEND Learning Support Assistant works alongside behaviour, speech and language, and occupational therapy specialists in a holistic educational programme, rather than a personal care role.

Primitive reflex work is paired with visual tracking to support reading, while table-based learning is generalised into natural settings. The SEN Tutor / SEND Learning Support Assistant can also learn alongside visiting specialists from STAR Academy in South Africa.

DUTIES

Your duties as the SEN Tutor / SEND Learning Support Assistant include:

• Curriculum Delivery and Adaptation: Deliver the established teaching programme, evaluate what works and refine how content is presented to maintain engagement

• 1:1 Teaching and Collaboration: Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to implement structured goals and communicate progress clearly

• Speech and Communication Focus: Apply speech and oral-motor protocols, including TalkTools and Primitive Reflex Integration, to support clear speech and expressive communication

• Integrated Learning: Connect visual tracking, reflex work and educational activities, helping learning generalise from structured tasks into natural environments

• School and Community Support: Travel with the learner in a private taxi to and from his SEN school in Earlsfield, support independence in class and encourage social integration

• Functional Life Skills: Support community activities such as local errands, public transport and grocery shopping to build practical independence

• Data and Progress Tracking: Record programme data accurately using Hi Rasmus and contribute to curriculum reviews

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Practical SEN experience supporting young people, including paid, voluntary or placement-based experience, particularly with receptive language, communication or processing challenges

• Relevant degree or equivalent practical SEN experience, such as a degree in Special Educational Needs (SEN), Psychology, Education, Speech and Language Therapy or a related discipline

• Applications are welcomed from candidates at different career stages, including those earlier in their SEN career who can demonstrate relevant practical experience and a genuine willingness to learn

• Exceptionally clear and consistent spoken English, with precise articulation and pronunciation to support the learner’s auditory-processing and speech-mirroring needs

• Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills, with excellent punctuality and dependability

• An open-minded, resilient and proactive approach, with enthusiasm for learning new methods, taking feedback constructively and bringing solutions

• Self-employed status in the UK with valid right to work; visa sponsorship is not available

• Valid Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one

BENEFITS

• Full funding and guidance to complete the 40-hour Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) online qualification
