LOCUM CLINICAL FELLOW (ST3+ LEVEL) IN CLINICAL ONCOLOGY

 

Both full and part-time options available – fixed term six month contract

 

We are recruiting to the postS of Locum Clinical Fellow in Clinical Oncology at the St. Bartholomew’s Cancer Centre, part of St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London. This post would suit a Doctor seeking a career in Medical Oncology, Clinical Oncology, Haemato-Oncology or another Medical Speciality.

 

Barts Health NHS Trust has an international reputation for providing excellent cancer care.The centre is a major tertiary referral centre for all forms of adult malignant diseasefor the 1.5 million people in the City and North-East London. The Cancer Centre also provides specialist services for patients from Essex and across the country. Opened in 2011, the Cancer Centre has 75 acute inpatient beds across four wards, which includes a bone marrow transplantation unit undertaking 140 transplants a year. Two wards are designated for Solid Tumour Oncology and the other two for Haemato-Oncology. The Cancer Centre has two chemotherapy day units and provides outreach services to Whipps Cross, Newham and Homerton hospitals. The St. Bartholomew’s Cancer Centre is an integral part of the Cancer Research UK Clinical Academic Unit and Barts Institute of Cancer.

The Radiotherapy Department is state-of-the-art, housed in a modern, custom-designed building in the heart of the City of London.  It has five linear accelerators and a Cyberknife and is supported by a team of 41 Therapy Radiographers. We provide over 2,000 fractions of radiotherapy each month, and are consistently the Radiotherapy Department which delivers the most Image-Modulated Radiotherapy in England.  There will be opportunities to participate in outpatient clinics and to gain skills and experience in radiotherapy planning. The Department is actively involved in audit and research and the successful applicant will have access to a varied educational programme and all trainingopportunities available to the existing specialist trainees.

Registrars work as part of a team of 7 Clinical Oncology Registrars and 13 Medical Oncology Registrars, thus forming a non-resident on-call rota of 1 in 20.  The Solid Tumour Oncology inpatient wards are supported by a team of nine ST1/2 Level Doctors and two FY1 Doctors.The successful candidate will receive full support not only in the day-to-day clinical duties; but also in their career development and applications for NTN and research posts. There will be opportunities to participate in outpatient clinics and to gain skills and experience in radiotherapy planning. The Department is actively involved in audit and research and the successful applicant will have access to a varied educational programme and all trainingopportunities available to the existing specialist trainees.

 

Experienced doctors who have completed Core Medical Training or equivalent are invited to apply.  MRCP is desirable although not essential.  Experiencein Oncology or Haematology is very desirable. Similarly, research fellows committed to Medical Oncology, Clinical Oncology, or Haematology and looking for a post to apply for an NTN in the future are encouraged to apply.
