Location: South London

Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Setting: Specialist SEND School – Ages 3–19

    Autism, PMLD, SLD and complex learning needs?

    Do you have experience delivering highly differentiated, sensory and communication-focused learning within a specialist school?

    •

    Are you a compassionate and adaptable teacher who is passionate about helping children and young people with complex needs achieve greater independence?

    TeacherActive is currently recruiting for an experienced

    SEND Teacher to join a specialist school supporting autistic learners aged

    3–19.

    The school supports pupils who experience multiple and complex barriers to learning and may require significant levels of individualised support. Many pupils also have

    severe learning difficulties, sensory processing needs, physical disabilities and complex medical needs.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who understands that progress within a complex SEND setting can look very different for every learner and who can create meaningful learning opportunities centred around

    communication, independence, regulation and emotional wellbeing.

    The successful SEND Teacher will:

      •

      Plan and deliver engaging and highly differentiated lessons for pupils with

      PMLD, SLD, Autism and complex SEND

      •

      Develop pupils' communication, independence, sensory regulation, social interaction and physical development

      •

      Deliver sensory and communication-focused learning tailored to individual needs

      •

      Use approaches including

      Makaton, AAC, communication switches and sensory-based strategies

      •

      Work closely with

      Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, healthcare professionals and support staff

      •

      Contribute towards and review

      EHCP targets, ensuring they remain meaningful, measurable and achievable

      •

      Support pupils with sensory and emotional regulation

      •

      Monitor progress using

      small-step achievement frameworks

      •

      Work with pupils who may have physical disabilities and complex medical requirements

      •

      Understand the importance of feeding programmes, mobility support, positioning, wheelchair use and personal care in accordance with individual care plans

      •

      Maintain regular communication with parents and carers regarding pupils' development and achievements

      •

      Create a safe, positive and nurturing classroom environment

      The ideal candidate will have:

        •

        QTS, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

        •

        Previous experience teaching pupils with

        PMLD, SLD, ASD and complex SEND

        •

        Experience working within a

        special school environment

        •

        Strong knowledge of

        sensory curriculum approaches and intensive interaction

        •

        Experience using communication-focused teaching strategies

        •

        Knowledge of

        AAC and alternative communication methods

        •

        Experience supporting pupils with physical disabilities and complex medical needs

        •

        A strong understanding of

        EHCPs and personalised learning

        •

        A compassionate, patient and adaptable approach

        •

        Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
