Summary
We are looking for an experienced and capable caretaker (live-in) to take responsibility for the day-to-day running, presentation and upkeep of our private estate and self-catering accommodation near Fort William. This is a hands-on role covering both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.
This role combines housekeeping, basic property maintenance, basic groundskeeping, guest liaison, contractor coordination and the practical organisation of the properties. The right person will be equally comfortable dealing professionally with a guest or contractor as they are cleaning a bathroom, changing beds, cutting grass or carrying out a minor repair.
What a normal week on the estate looks like
The balance of each day changes according to guest arrivals and departures, occupancy and what needs attention across the estate. Not every day has a property changeover. If only one or no lodge needs preparing, the changeover may be completed earlier or not at all and the remainder of the day might be spent working on the grounds, carrying out touch-ups in an empty property, organising or replenishing stock, meeting a contractor, completing maintenance or getting ahead on other cleaning or laundry.
The caretaker is trusted to organise the working day around bookings and the priorities of the estate. Flexibility comes with the role and the caretaker would be expected to handle their time appropriately.
Duties
- Take responsibility for the condition, presentation and smooth day-to-day operation of the properties.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all estate interiors, including bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and living areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene and presentation.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, and linen management with attention to detail.
- Conduct regular inspections of the property’s exterior and interior to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Carry out maintenance tasks including minor repairs, plumbing checks, electrical troubleshooting, and gardening support as needed.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and maintenance materials to ensure readiness for daily operations.
- Respond promptly to any urgent maintenance issues or emergencies to minimize disruption and maintain safety.
- Collaborate closely with estate management to coordinate schedules for cleaning, repairs, and special events.
- Hands-on care and presentation of the estate grounds. Can include grass cutting, strimming and seasonal outdoor work.
- Liaise with guests for check-in, questions, requests and resolution of issues during stays.
Accommodation, couples and families
This role is live-in due to the nature of the job. We welcome applications from individuals, couples and families.
Where the successful candidate is relocating with a partner, there may be opportunities for the partner to undertake additional paid work on the estate on a separate flexible/casual basis, depending on their skills and the needs of the business. Any such work would be separately agreed and paid and is not a condition of the caretaker role.
If you are applying as a couple where the non-applicant has relevant skills for the estate – please let us know in your application and attach their CV as well.
Hours, leave and flexibility
The role is generally 9am-5pm. Reasonable flexibility is required because hospitality and property management do not always fit neatly within fixed hours and occasional guest or property matters may need attention outside normal working hours. Equally, on quieter days, the role may give way for you to have more personal time off. Flexibility and responsibility is key.
Paid annual leave is provided in line with the employment package and statutory requirements. Public and bank holidays are not automatically non-working days; holiday is provided as an annual entitlement and arranged around the needs of the business.
Application process
Applications will be reviewed and interviews held on a rolling basis. Initial interviews will be conducted remotely. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short assessment.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
Please email your CV and cover letter to admin@glenloy.com.
Intended start date Jan/Feb 2027.
