Summary

Access to Work Support Worker

Location: Pladis (UK), Ashby de la Zouch

Working Pattern: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm

Hours: 24 hours per week

Contract: Fixed-term contract linked to Access to Work Funding

About the Role

The Access to Work Support Worker will provide practical workplace support to an employee with a visual impairment, enabling them to carry out their role safely, effectively and independently.

The post holder will assist with tasks where visual support is required, whilst promoting the employee's autonomy, dignity and independence at all times. The Support Worker will not be responsible for carrying out the employee's role on their behalf but will provide assistance to enable them to undertake their duties.

Key Responsibilities

The Support Worker will provide assistance with tasks including:

• Reading and interpreting written information, labels, instructions and notices.

• Assisting with stock replenishment and organisation within workplace canteen areas where visual support is required.

• Supporting the preparation and organisation of snack boxes and workplace supplies.

• Assisting with identifying products, checking stock levels and monitoring expiry dates.

• Providing visual guidance to support safe movement around the workplace where required.

• Reading, checking and communicating written documents, emails or workplace communications as necessary.

• Supporting access to training, meetings and workplace activities.

• Assisting with completing workplace records where visual support is required.

• Reporting any health and safety concerns to the appropriate manager.

• Maintaining confidentiality regarding any personal or workplace information obtained during the course of employment.

Essential

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.

• Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.

• Patient, supportive and respectful approach.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to promote independence rather than dependency.

• Understanding of professional boundaries.

Desirable

• Previous experience of supporting individuals with disabilities or additional needs.

• Knowledge of visual impairment and reasonable workplace adjustments.

• Experience within a workplace support or assistant role.

• Report accidents, incidents, hazards or concerns promptly.

Additional Information

• The Support Worker will be line managed by Forever Savvy and will work in partnership with the supported employee and relevant workplace contacts.

• Training and induction will be provided.

• No personal care is required as part of this role.

• This role is specifically funded through the Access to Work scheme to provide workplace support to a named employee. Continuation of the role is dependent upon ongoing Access to Work funding.
