Job Description: Bid Manager
Our client, a leading construction firm, is seeking a highly skilled Bid Manager to lead projects from the inception stage through to tender submission and contract award. This role is crucial for ensuring the company’s position is contractually protected and margin opportunities are maximised.
You will assist with the financial, commercial, and contractual control of project bids, ensuring the business is fully reimbursed for works executed at the appropriate stages.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Commercial
• Manage all pre-construction activities for assigned projects from early design stages through to site commencement.
• Prepare tender prices, submission documents, and feasibility budget costs.
• Identify and manage risks and opportunities associated with tenders while driving value engineering to maximise commercial returns.
• Facilitate key workshops, including Bid Winning Workshops and Risk and Opportunity Workshops.
• Prepare Capture Plans and Answer Planning documentation in accordance with the agreed winning strategy.
• Understand construction programmes and accurately assess their implications on costs and bid deliverables.
• Produce client cash flow forecasts and tender reports for senior management.
• Manage tender documentation, including correspondence, drawings, and cost/value investigations.
• Collaborate on cost data to help evolve the internal historical cost database.
• Obtain necessary corporate approvals and consents as required by company procedures.
• Prepare comprehensive handover documentation to transition successful tenders smoothly from the pre-construction team to operations.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, specifically regarding CDM Regulations during pre-construction activities.
• Assess significant H&S risks as part of the overall project risk management approach.
Supply Chain & Relationship Management
• Review commercial and contractual aspects of supply chain tenders and offers.
• Utilise and develop the company’s supply chain database to ensure project requirements are fully satisfied.
• Continually develop relationships with consultants, clients, and the broader supply chain.
• Suggest improvements to internal company systems to address evolving business needs.
Authority & Reporting Line
• Reporting to: Regional Bid Manager.
• Authority: You will manage the technical, commercial, and contractual aspects of a project bid from inception through to the early site stages. You will guide operational and commercial staff during construction on bid-relevant matters.
• Autonomy: You will use your discretion to manage risk and maximise project profitability, maintaining a close working relationship with Directors and Estimating teams to resolve complex or contentious issues.
