What's involved with this role:

Interim Childcare Lawyer

Location: London (with office attendance required 3 days per week)

Ref: TCL

Rate: £27.81 per hour PAYE (flexible holiday pay options)

Contract: Interim – 3 Months (Inside IR35)

Working Pattern: Full?time, Monday–Friday

Hybrid Working: 3 days per week on site, remainder remote

The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer to provide specialist legal advice and representation across Children’s Social Care matters. You will manage a varied and often complex caseload, deliver clear and proactive legal guidance, and undertake your own advocacy. This role requires someone who can hit the ground running, operate with professionalism, and maintain excellent working relationships in a fast?paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide specialist legal advice and assistance across Children’s Social Services law, including Child Protection, Adoption Law and the Children Act 1989.

Personally conduct advocacy and represent the organisation in courts and tribunals, instructing counsel where appropriate.

Manage a busy caseload of complex childcare matters, preparing all associated documentation and ensuring high?quality case progression.

Advise on disputes, council powers and legal decision?making, ensuring compliance and robust governance.

Approve or amend legal aspects of reports and attend meetings to provide clear, concise legal advice to senior stakeholders.

Contribute to policy development, good practice, and the wider running of the legal team.

Provide supervision, guidance and support to Legal Assistants and trainees as required.

Keep up to date with legislative changes, disseminating updates and advising on required actions.

You Will Need (Essential Requirements)

Admitted Solicitor, Barrister or FILEX.

Significant post?qualification experience in Children’s Social Care law, including handling complex and high?risk cases.

Strong advocacy skills with experience attending County Court, Magistrates Court or Family Court hearings.

Ability to work autonomously, manage a heavy caseload and deliver clear, proactive legal advice.

Familiarity with Iken Cloud Case Management system (client requirement).

Desirable Experience

Experience preparing or advising on reports for senior officers or committees.

Ability to supervise junior staff and provide training.

Experience contributing to corporate policy and strategic legal work.

Strong relationship?building skills with an emphasis on collaboration and influence.

Willingness and ability to undertake own advocacy on matters (client requirement).

Ability to hit the ground running and adapt quickly.

Flexibility to undertake work as assigned.

Professionalism and strong client?relationship management.

Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
