Job Title:  Teaching Assistant Level 2 – Early Years Actual Annual Salary:  £26,186 - £28,268, based on hours and weeks worked Full Time Equivalent Salary:  £29,812 - £32,138 (CLF Grade C) based on full time hours, all year round. Contract Type:  Permanent Hours:  32.5 hours per week, All Year Round Potential Start Date: 4th January 2027 pending the completition of pre employment checks This is a unique chance to join the growing team at Airfield Primary Academy, a brand-new school in Weston-super-Mare, as we continue to develop our Early Years provision. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years Teaching Assistants (Level 2) who are highly committed about supporting young children to learn and enjoy their education. We have 4 vacancies for this Early Years role, which will work across Nursery (2-3 year old provision) and Preschool (3-4 year old provision). Airfield Primary Academy is a new and growing school serving the Haywood Village community in Weston-super-Mare. Having welcomed our first Reception children in September 2026, we are continuing to develop our Early Years provision, including our nursery and preschool. This provides a fantastic opportunity to join us at an exciting stage in the academy’s journey and play a part in creating a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where every child is supported to thrive. As an Early Years Teaching Assistant Level 2, you will support the educational, personal and social development of children under the direction and guidance of teachers and other colleagues. Working with children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, you will use your Early Years knowledge and experience to support children in reaching developmental milestones, engaging positively with their learning and achieving their individual goals. You will contribute to the observation, assessment and recording of children’s progress, help identify where additional support or intervention may be needed, and adapt your approach to respond to individual needs. You will also play an important role in supporting children with SEND, additional needs and disabilities, promoting positive behaviour and ensuring all children are fully included within the provision. About you You will have: An Early Years Educator / Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification and/or equivalent qualification, alongside good literacy and numeracy skills. Experience of working within an Early Years setting, with a good understanding of children’s learning and development and the barriers that may affect their progress. The ability to build positive relationships with children and support them effectively one-to-one and in groups, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs. Good planning and organisational skills, with experience of producing learning materials, delivering activities and contributing to the monitoring, assessment and recording of children’s progress. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy and active listening, with the ability to work effectively with children, parents and carers, colleagues and other professionals. The ability to work inclusively with all children, including those with SEND, additional needs and disabilities, and an understanding of positive behaviour management strategies. A good understanding of safeguarding requirements and a commitment to promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. A caring, patient, flexible and reliable approach, with the resilience to remain calm in challenging situations and respond sensitively to the needs of children and their families. The school will serve the local community of Haywood Village, a growing development of around 6,500 homes, and will form an integral part of the area’s educational provision. The academy opened initially with one class of Reception pupils, and will continue to grow year by year to accommodate up to approximately 700 pupils when full. The purpose‑built school will be set within extensive outdoor spaces designed to support learning and play, including nature areas, grass and all‑weather sports pitches and shared community sports facilities. These resources will help establish the academy as a vibrant hub for both education and community life.
