Job Title: Early Years Higher Level Teaching Assistant Level 3 Actual Annual Salary: £30,109 - £32,847, based on hours and weeks worked Full Time Equivalent Salary: £33,009 - £36,011 (CLF Grade D) based on full time hours, all year round. Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 33.75 hours per week, All Year Round Potential Start Date: 4th January 2027 Pending the completion of pre employment checks This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join the growing team at Airfield Primary Academy, a brand-new school in Weston-super-Mare, as we continue to develop our Early Years provision. We have two Early Years Higher-Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) positions available to work in our Nursery provision (2-3 year olds) and within our Preschool provision (3-4 year olds). We are looking for highly skilled and dedicated practitioners who will play an important role in helping us create a joy-filled, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, loves their learning and has the opportunity to thrive. Airfield Primary Academy is a new and growing school serving the Haywood Village community in Weston-super-Mare. Having welcomed our first Reception children in September 2026, we are continuing to develop our Early Years provision, including our nursery and preschool. This provides a fantastic opportunity to join us at an exciting stage in the academy’s journey and contribute to high-quality Early Years practice from the outset. As an Early Years Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, you will complement the work of teachers by taking responsibility for developing and delivering agreed learning activities, working with individual children, groups and whole classes within an appropriate system of supervision. You will help provide high standards of childcare and education, creating a safe and caring environment that supports children’s emotional, social and educational development. Working closely with teachers and the wider Early Years team, you will use your knowledge and experience to support the planning and deliver effective learning activities, monitor and assess children’s progress, and adapt approaches to meet individual needs. You will build positive relationships with parents and carers, work collaboratively with other professionals and play an active role in supporting children to achieve their potential. About you You will have: A Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, alongside good literacy and numeracy skills, and a strong understanding of the EYFS and relevant safeguarding requirements. Recent experience of working as a highly effective Early Years professional, with experience of implementing the EYFS. The confidence and ability to engage children one-to-one, in groups and as a whole class, managing behaviour positively and supporting their learning and development. Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prepare, deliver and evaluate structured learning activities and interventions that support children to make progress. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, parents and carers, colleagues and external professionals. A good understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, barriers to learning and positive behaviour management strategies. A caring, patient and flexible approach, with the resilience to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions when required. About Airfield Primary Academy: Airfield Primary Academy is a new primary school that opened in September 2026 on the former Weston Airfield site in Haywood Village, Weston-Super-Mare. The school will serve the local community of Haywood Village, a growing development of around 6,500 homes, and will form an integral part of the area’s educational provision. The academy will open initially with 30 Reception pupils, growing year by year to accommodate approximately 700 pupils when full. The purpose‑built school will be set within extensive outdoor spaces designed to support learning and play, including nature areas, grass and all‑weather sports pitches and shared community sports facilities. These resources will help establish the academy as a vibrant hub for both education and community life.
