What We're Looking For
• At least 2 years' experience in a role related to residential care of children
• At least 1 year's experience in a supervisory role within the last 5 years
• Level 3 qualification in Children's Residential Care is essential
• Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare is preferred; if not held, enrolment on Level 5 is required within 6 months of starting
• Strong understanding of the Quality Standards, SCCIF, childcare legislation and regulatory requirements
• Experience supporting children with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties
• Understanding of trauma and experience managing challenging behaviour
• Strong planning, organisational, budget control and resource allocation skills
• Ability to lead, develop and retain a strong residential childcare team
• Confident written and verbal communication skills
• Full UK driving licence
• Genuine passion for making a positive difference to the lives of young people in care
Key Roles & Responsibilities
• Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the 2-bed children's home
• Ensure the home meets the required Quality Standards and Statement of Purpose, with an expectation of achieving at least a Good Ofsted rating
• Develop comprehensive, individualised care plans addressing care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic and health needs
• Recruit, develop and retain a strong staff team, supported by the recruitment and leadership teams
• Complete inductions and personal development plans to ensure staff are equipped to provide high-quality care
• Develop systems to ensure young people's views and experiences are actively consulted on
• Allocate Key Workers and ensure care plans are implemented effectively
• Maintain consistently high standards of care and safeguarding
• Take responsibility for complaints, concerns and child protection matters
• Work closely with parents, carers and external professionals to promote the welfare of young people
• Attend and contribute to care planning and review meetings
• Ensure children are cared for within a safe, nurturing and supportive environment
• Manage the home effectively in line with budget and commercial expectations
• Monitor quality, compliance and service standards
• Support young people to develop the academic, practical and social skills needed to thrive and achieve their potential
• Promote a holistic, individualised and therapeutic approach to care
