Summary
Horizon Teachers is working with [a welcoming primary school / a specialist SEN school] in Harrow to find caring, patient Teaching Assistants to support pupils with autism (ASD). You'll work in [a mainstream class / a small specialist class / 1:1], helping children feel safe and settled so they can learn and grow in confidence.
The role
- Support pupils with ASD one-to-one or in small groups, following their EHCP targets
- Use visual timetables, Makaton, PECS and clear routines to help pupils communicate and manage change
- Recognise signs of anxiety or sensory overload and help pupils self-regulate calmly
- Adapt activities and resources with the class teacher so pupils can take part
- Support personal care where needed, with dignity and respect
- Record progress and share observations with the teacher, SENCo and parents
About you
- Experience supporting children with ASD, in school, childcare, care work or personally
- Calm, patient and consistent, even when a day doesn't go to plan
- A good communicator who builds trust with children, staff and families
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or sensory strategies is a bonus but not essential
- A relevant qualification (such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate) is welcome but not required
- Graduates looking to go into teaching, psychology or speech and language therapy are encouraged to apply
