Summary

Horizon Teachers is working with a specialist SEN school in Harrow to find caring, patient Teaching Assistants to support pupils with autism (ASD). You'll work in a small specialist class / 1:1 helping children feel safe and settled so they can learn and grow in confidence.

The role

  • Support pupils with ASD one-to-one or in small groups, following their EHCP targets
  • Use visual timetables, Makaton, PECS and clear routines to help pupils communicate and manage change
  • Recognise signs of anxiety or sensory overload and help pupils self-regulate calmly
  • Adapt activities and resources with the class teacher so pupils can take part
  • Support personal care where needed, with dignity and respect
  • Record progress and share observations with the teacher, SENCo and parents

About you

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, in school, childcare, care work or personally
  • Calm, patient and consistent, even when a day doesn't go to plan
  • A good communicator who builds trust with children, staff and families
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, Team Teach or sensory strategies is a bonus but not essential
  • A relevant qualification (such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate) is welcome but not required
  • Graduates looking to go into teaching, psychology or speech and language therapy are encouraged to apply
