Summary
The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist to provide clinical and professional leadership within Neuro Oncology, with a specialist focus on the Awake Craniotomy pathway. This senior role offers the opportunity to lead and shape a highly specialised neuropsychology service, supporting adults with brain tumours and epilepsy across the full surgical pathway—from pre-operative assessment and preparation, through intra-operative cognitive monitoring, to post-operative rehabilitation and outcome evaluation. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care in a complex, high-risk neurosurgical context, while contributing to service development, governance, and strategic planning. We are looking for an individual with extensive post-qualification experience in neuropsychology within neurological or neurosurgical settings, who brings advanced expertise in complex assessment and intervention, alongside strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will be confident operating autonomously at consultant level, committed to maintaining high clinical standards, and motivated to drive innovation, workforce development and service improvement within a dynamic and evolving specialty.
• Provideconsultant-level clinical leadershipfor Neuro Oncology neuropsychology services
• Lead and oversee neuropsychological input into theAwake Craniotomy pathway
• Deliverexpert consultationon complex cases involving cognition, capacity, communication and risk
• Develop and implementclinical pathways, protocols and competency frameworks
• Ensure services meetgovernance, safety and quality standards
• Line manage and supervise senior neuropsychology staff, supporting workforce development
• Leadaudit, evaluation and outcome monitoringto inform service improvement
• Contribute tostrategic planning, business cases and service development
• Work collaboratively with neurosurgery, oncology and multidisciplinary teams
• Supporteducation, training and disseminationof specialist expertise

Takes responsibility for neuropsychology provision within the Awake Craniotomy and Neurooncology Service
Is expected to manage the care of the most challenging and complex presentations within the Awake Craniotomy and Neurooncology Service.
Is required to provide management and supervision of recently qualified clinical psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists.
Will be expected to develop and innovate methods in service provision for people with primary brain tumours and to support staff, relatives and, were appropriate, other services in providing care to this group of patients.
Providing specialist neuropsychological and clinical psychological assessment, formulation and therapy, including awake craniotomy
Offering advice and consultation on patient’s neuropsychological care to colleagues from other disciplines and to other, non-professional carers, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
