Hays Education is delighted to be working in partnership with a highly regarded specialist school in the Preston area to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of additional needs in a nurturing and highly supportive learning environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve their individual academic, social and emotional goals.

Your new role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), communication and interaction needs, learning difficulties and complex needs.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils access the curriculum.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote emotional wellbeing.
  • Support the development of communication, social and independence skills.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or SEND experience (desirable but not essential).
