Not every young person finds education straightforward.
For pupils with additional needs, anxiety, communication difficulties or challenges with emotional regulation, simply getting into the classroom and feeling ready to learn can be an achievement.
Having the right adult alongside them can make a real difference.
We're looking for a SEND Education Support Mentor to join a specialist education setting in Camborne from January, helping children and young people overcome barriers, build confidence and become more independent in their learning.
This is a varied, practical role centred around the individual young person.
You'll support pupils who may have needs including:
Autism (ASC) • ADHD • SEMH • Speech & Language Needs • Learning Difficulties • Emotional Regulation Needs
Some pupils may need structured learning support. Others may need help managing emotions, communicating their needs, navigating social situations or returning to an activity after becoming overwhelmed.
You'll learn what works for each individual rather than expecting every pupil to respond in the same way.

You don't have to come from a traditional classroom background.
In fact, experience supporting people in other environments can give you many of the skills needed to succeed in specialist education.
You may currently or previously have worked as a:
Support Worker • Youth Worker • Residential Support Worker • Care Worker • Behaviour Mentor • SEN Teaching Assistant • Learning Support Assistant
Experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs would be particularly valuable.
What matters is that you're able to build trust while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
You'll need to be:
- Calm and patient.

- Resilient when situations become challenging.
- Confident adapting your communication.
- Able to recognise when a young person needs space or additional support.
- Positive without putting unnecessary pressure on pupils.
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Committed to helping young people become more independent.
Due to the nature and location of the role, you'll need a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
You'll also require an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.
