Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Newark & Sherwood Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and play a key role in the development of mental health support within education settings across the locality.

We are seeking a Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) to lead and support projects that enhance the involvement and participation of children and young people, families, and schools in shaping and improving mental health services. The post holder will work collaboratively with education settings, young people, parents/carers, and wider stakeholders to co-produce initiatives and deliver meaningful participation and engagement activities across the MHST.

Alongside these responsibilities, the post holder will maintain a clinical caseload, providing evidence-based early intervention support and treatment for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. They will also offer consultation and support to education settings and contribute to service development and quality improvement.

The MHST works closely with schools to support the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people, their families, and education staff.

Applicants must hold a recognised EMHP Postgraduate Diploma and have completed a CYP IAPT-approved training programme in evidence-based psychological treatment for children and young people. Registration with a relevant professional body, such as BABCP or BPS, is essential.

We are an early intervention wellbeing service aimed at providing support for children young people and families around low-level emotional wellbeing needs, such as anxiety, low mood, managing emotions, and sleep. We link in directly with Nottinghamshire CAMHS teams and provide ‘in school’ sessions to promote a positive mental health.

The role of the Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner within the area of the Nottinghamshire project will include one to one and group work. There will also be opportunity to develop the SEN offer to support young people accessing the MHST service and provide support to staff in education.

The interventions delivered will be brief and focused on early intervention.

The schools included in this project will have a designated Mental Health Lead, who can refer directly into the service. We work closely alongside these staff as we support them in creating a whole school approach to mental health.

You will work with a variety of agencies to ensure a quality service is provided. You will work alongside more junior members of the team, to deliver parent, well-being and 1:1 sessions. There will also be a duty element to the role, alongside facilitating drop-in sessions within schools.

You must have two years minimum experience post qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner to be eligible for post.

You must also have experience of working therapeutically with children, young people and families where there are emotional difficulties within a CAMHS service. It is preferable if you have experience of working in this capacity within schools.

The MHST cover the county of Nottinghamshire and have bases across the county, the main base for the team is at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham, NG6 9DR.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
