Summary

The post holder will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care within the Interventional Radiology service, ensuring patients receive safe, effective and compassionate care throughout diagnostic, therapeutic and image-guided procedures. Working under the direction of the Radiology Nursing Team Leader and Senior Sister, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of specialist interventional radiology services, including vascular, neurovascular, hepatobiliary, gastrointestinal and CT/ultrasound-guided procedures. Key responsibilities include: Clinical Responsibilities Deliver evidence-based, patient-centred care to patients undergoing interventional radiology procedures. Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop, implement and evaluate individualised care plans. Prepare, support and monitor patients before, during and after procedures. Undertake the roles of scrub practitioner, circulating practitioner and pre-procedure nurse as required. Monitor patients receiving sedation and provide ongoing clinical observations throughout procedures. Act as the patient's advocate, ensuring informed consent, privacy and dignity are maintained. Accurately document clinical information and maintain records in accordance with Trust and NMC standards. Participate in health promotion and patient education activities. Service Delivery Assist in the organisation and preparation of procedure rooms and clinical areas. Support the smooth and efficient running of the Interventional Radiology service. Ensure equipment, consumables and medicines are appropriately maintained, stored and available. Contribute to service development, audit, quality improvement and infection prevention initiatives. Support the delivery of a responsive emergency and trauma service through participation in the on-call rota. Leadership and Management Provide support, supervision and guidance to junior staff, students and learners. Act as a role model, promoting professional standards and best practice. Contribute to staff development, mentorship and competency assessment. Deputise for the Team Leader/Sister when required and assist in coordinating clinical activity and resources. Support the management of incidents, complaints, risks and safety concerns in line with Trust policies. Communication and Team Working Develop effective working relationships with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary colleagues. Communicate complex clinical information clearly and sensitively. Promote collaborative working across Radiology, theatres, wards, critical care, emergency services and specialist clinical teams. Participate in departmental meetings, education sessions and service improvement initiatives. Professional Responsibilities Maintain active NMC registration and professional accountability. Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning. Comply with Trust policies, professional standards, safeguarding requirements, infection prevention measures and health and safety legislation. Uphold the Trust values and contribute positively to the delivery of high-quality patient care. This role requires flexibility to work across the Interventional Radiology service, including participation in on-call, weekend, night and late duty rotas to support the delivery of a 24-hour emergency service.
