The historic Malt Cross is an iconic bar and kitchen in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The venue has been welcoming and serving customers to its famous bar for almost 150 years.
As we approach the busy festive period, we are looking for a Casual Kitchen Porter to join our team.
We are passionate about high-quality food, made from locally sourced ingredients served in a welcoming, friendly, relaxed environment filled with great music and lively events.
What’s more, as an independent venue, Malt Cross’s activity directly supports YMCA community projects in the city and across Nottinghamshire.

Role Highlights
Job Title: Casual Kitchen Porter
Location: Malt Cross, 16 St James’s Street, Nottingham, NG1 6FG
Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: Sunday’s with other hours available across the week covering days and evenings but must be available on SUNDAY to support the existing team.
The Role
On a day-to-day basis, you can expect your role to include:
- Ensure the kitchen is clean, including our equipment, utensils, and work areas.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchenware.
- Empty rubbish bins and dispose of waste in designated waste areas.
- Support kitchen staff by performing basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling vegetables or portioning ingredients.
- Assist in receiving deliveries and storing supplies in designated areas.
About You
Whether you already have experience working in a kitchen environment or are looking for the first step in your hospitality career, we are looking for someone with:
- A positive attitude and a willingness to get stuck in
- Good communication and a team-player attitude
- Pride in doing things properly and to the best of your ability
- A strong work ethic and the ability to work at pace
- A real understanding of the importance of cleanliness, safety, and consistency in the kitchen
We are specifically looking for someone who can work Sundays to support the availability of the rest of our team. There will also be the opportunity to work other shifts as your availability allows. As to be expected with a role of this nature, evenings and weekends shifts will form the majority of your shifts.
