Summary

Specialist Outreach Teacher - Leigh

Location: Leigh, Greater Manchester

Rate: £26-£32 per hour

Hours: Part-time / flexible

What would teaching look like if you had the time to properly understand one young person at a time?

At SEND Inclusion Support, our Specialist Outreach Teachers work with children and young people who are finding mainstream education difficult to access. Rather than working to a full classroom timetable, you'll have the opportunity to adapt education around the individual and focus on what will genuinely help them move forward.

We're looking for an experienced teacher to support a young person in Leigh.

This could be an ideal role for a teacher who enjoys the creativity of teaching but would like more autonomy, more meaningful relationships and fewer of the pressures that come with a traditional classroom.

Every pupil is different, so there isn't a one-size-fits-all timetable.

You'll be responsible for:

Delivering personalised 1:1 education

Getting to know the young person and understanding how they learn best

Using their interests and strengths to encourage engagement

Adapting teaching to their individual needs and starting point

Supporting academic progress alongside confidence, communication and independence

Creating positive routines and helping overcome barriers to learning

Working with families and other professionals where appropriate

Keeping clear records and reporting on progress

Helping the young person work towards their next appropriate education pathway

Sessions may take place in the home, community or another suitable environment, depending on the individual provision.

Working outside a school environment doesn't mean working without structure.

Our teachers have access to our bespoke Nurture Curriculum, a semi-formal curriculum developed specifically for young people who may be unable to access mainstream education.

It provides a framework to work from while giving you the flexibility to adapt learning to the individual. Where appropriate, it can feed into the National Curriculum and formal education pathways.

And you'll have a team around you.

Our Nurture Teachers and wider specialists share ideas, resources and experience, with termly Nurture Teacher Days providing dedicated opportunities to come together, reflect on practice and support one another.

We're particularly interested in teachers who enjoy working creatively and independently and who can see beyond a young person's barriers to recognise their potential.

You should have:

QTS or substantial relevant teaching experience

Experience working with SEND and/or SEMH

The ability to adapt teaching significantly for individual learners

A calm, patient and consistent approach

Strong relationship-building skills

Good professional judgement

The confidence to work independently while communicating effectively with a wider team

A genuine commitment to inclusive education

Experience of autism, EBSA, anxiety, SEMH or Alternative Provision would be advantageous.

£26-£32 per hour
