Lead Practitioner for Mathematics

An exceptional opportunity for an ambitious mathematics leader ready to take full ownership of a department and drive its continued improvement.Hays Education is proud to be supporting a forward-thinking education organisation in the recruitment of a confident and strategic Mathematics leader. This is a key departmental leadership opportunity for an experienced Head of Department, Lead Practitioner, Assistant Subject Leader or aspiring senior leader who can take charge of mathematics, set a clear direction and deliver sustained improvement with a high degree of autonomy.

If you're passionate about raising standards, developing colleagues and leading decisively, this role offers the scope to shape the department, establish clear expectations and be accountable for its performance.

The RoleTaking full responsibility for the mathematics department, you will set its strategic direction and lead the day-to-day delivery of teaching, learning and improvement priorities. You will make confident, evidence-informed decisions, hold colleagues to account and resolve challenges proactively, seeking input from the senior leadership team where appropriate rather than relying on them to drive the department.

You will play a key role in:

Taking full ownership of departmental standards, outcomes and improvement priorities.

Setting and delivering a clear mathematics strategy aligned with the school's wider objectives.

Leading, coaching and holding teaching staff accountable for consistently strong classroom practice.

Overseeing curriculum design, assessment, intervention and evidence-informed practice.

Using performance information to identify issues early and implement effective solutions.

Providing clear updates and recommendations to senior leaders while operating independently in the day-to-day leadership of the department.

Championing high expectations and building a culture of collective responsibility and excellence.
