Summary

A Contracts Manager required to join an established main contractor based in the Hitchin area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager to join a well-established construction business delivering a varied portfolio of new build and refurbishment projects across multiple sectors.

The successful Contracts Manager will take responsibility for the delivery of multiple projects at any one time, typically managing 2–3 schemes with values ranging from approximately £1 million up to £10 million.

Contracts Manager – The Role

As Contracts Manager, you will have overall responsibility for multiple live construction projects, working closely with Site Managers, clients, subcontractors and the wider management team.

You will oversee projects through the full construction lifecycle, from initial groundworks and structural stages through steel frame, envelope, internal works and fit-out to final completion and handover.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing 2–3 construction projects simultaneously

• Overseeing projects typically valued between £1m and £10m

• Taking responsibility for projects from groundworks through to final handover

• Overseeing groundworks, structural and steel frame packages

• Managing the completion of the building envelope

• Coordinating internal works and fit-out packages

• Supporting and overseeing Site Managers and project teams

• Managing and coordinating subcontractors and trades

• Monitoring programmes and ensuring key milestones are achieved

• Attending and leading client and project meetings

• Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors

• Ensuring projects are delivered to the required quality standards

• Maintaining high standards of health & safety across all projects

• Ensuring all necessary site and project documentation is maintained

• Identifying and resolving potential issues before they impact project delivery

• Overseeing snagging, completion and final handover

Contracts Manager – The Ideal Candidate

The successful Contracts Manager will ideally come from a main contracting background and have previous experience managing multiple construction projects simultaneously.

You should have:

• Previous Contracts Manager experience with a main contractor

• Experience managing 2–3 projects at any one time

• Experience delivering projects between £1m and £10m

• Strong knowledge of the full construction lifecycle

• Experience taking projects from groundworks through steel frame, envelope, internal works, fit-out and handover

• New build and refurbishment experience

• Strong subcontractor and trade management experience

• Good programme and project management skills

• Strong client-facing and communication skills

• A good understanding of construction health & safety

• SMSTS

• First Aid

• CSCS

Experience across commercial, education, industrial or residential construction would be beneficial, although a strong main contracting background and demonstrable experience delivering projects through the full construction lifecycle will be the priority.
