Summary
A welcoming primary school in Exeter is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
You'll become an important and consistent part of their school day, helping pupils overcome barriers, access learning and feel confident that they belong in the classroom.
Working alongside the class teacher and SEND team, you'll provide support based around the individual needs of the children you're working with.
Your day could include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group SEND support.
- Breaking learning into achievable steps.
- Helping pupils stay engaged and participate in lessons.
- Supporting communication and social interaction.
- Helping children manage emotions and regulate their behaviour.
- Following individual learning and support plans.
- Encouraging confidence and independence.
- Recognising and celebrating individual progress.
- Supporting personal care where required.
- Sharing observations and progress with teachers and other professionals.
No two children will need exactly the same support, so being able to adapt, listen and build trusting relationships will be a big part of your role.
You'll ideally have a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or a related qualification, alongside experience supporting children with SEND.
You'll also be someone who is:
- Patient, compassionate and encouraging.
- Comfortable adapting your approach to individual children.
- Able to remain calm when a pupil is struggling.
- Confident working alongside teachers and other professionals.
- Passionate about inclusive education.
- Committed to helping children become more independent.
Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and positive behaviour-support strategies would be beneficial.
You'll need an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.
You'll receive £90-£100 per day, depending on experience, alongside the opportunity to:
