Summary
We're recruiting a Learning Support Assistant to join an education setting in Stockton-on-Tees, working with children and young people who need additional support to access learning and make progress.
This is a varied, hands-on position where you'll work alongside teaching and support staff while building strong relationships with the pupils you support.
Your role will change according to the needs of individual pupils and the activities taking place that day.
You could be:
- Providing 1:1 support during a lesson.
- Working with a small group who need additional explanation or practice.
- Breaking tasks into manageable stages.
- Helping a pupil stay focused and engaged.
- Delivering targeted learning interventions.
- Supporting communication, confidence and social interaction.
- Adapting resources to make activities more accessible.
- Encouraging pupils to attempt tasks independently.
- Supporting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
- Recording progress and sharing observations with teachers.
- Working towards targets within individual learning and support plans.
You'll work closely with teachers and other professionals to make sure support is consistent, purposeful and appropriate to each pupil.
You might already be working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEND Support Assistant or Support Worker, or have relevant experience working with children and young people in another setting.
We're looking for someone who can build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and expectations.
You'll need to be:
- Patient and approachable.
- Confident communicating with young people.
- Able to adapt when a particular approach isn't working.
- Organised and reliable.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Positive about inclusion and individual differences.
- Willing to learn and develop your skills.
Experience supporting different learning needs, SEND or barriers to education would be particularly useful.
You'll also need an appropriate Enhanced DBS or be willing to complete the required checks.
This could be particularly valuable if you're interested in developing a longer-term career in teaching, SEND, pastoral support, psychology, behaviour support or wider education.
You'll gain practical experience of how children learn differently, how individual support is planned and how education professionals work together around a young person.
For experienced Learning Support Assistants, it also offers the opportunity to bring your existing skills into a new setting and broaden your experience.
The role offers:
- £108 per day.
- Full-time work.
- Practical experience supporting a range of learning needs.
- Ongoing professional development.
- Support from experienced education professionals.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and experience.
You don't need to have all the answers.
You do need the patience to find out what works for the individual pupil in front of you.
If that sounds like the way you approach supporting young people, we'd like to hear from you.
