Summary

Key Responsibilities Work in partnership with other healthcare professionals to provide excellent patient care, including assisting with the assessment, planning and preparation required for patients undergoing procedures. Prepare and check theatres in readiness for surgical lists, including the preparation of appropriate consumables, equipment and prostheses. Undertake circulation duties following appropriate competency assessment, including tying gowns, opening sterile packs and assisting with swab, instrument and needle counts. Provide general assistance to the multidisciplinary team in operating theatres, including adjusting lights, obtaining additional instruments and restocking theatre consumables. Participate in laying-up and preparation for cases as appropriate and within the scope of the role. Assist with the safe lifting, turning, positioning and transfer of patients. Escort patients to theatre following completion of the appropriate competency assessment. Assist with the completion and accurate maintenance of relevant documentation and electronic patient records. Ensure appropriate processes are followed in relation to sterile and contaminated instruments. Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, aseptic practice, cleanliness and theatre cleaning. Circulate within Endoscopy when required and participate in the decontamination of endoscopes following appropriate training and competency assessment. Support the ordering, monitoring and restocking of theatre consumables. Check, change and restock medical gas cylinders as required. Assist with porter duties and other general departmental activities where required to support the needs of the service. Actively participate in clinical governance arrangements, including the reporting of incidents and adverse events. Participate in appraisal, personal development and competency assessment processes, identifying development needs and seeking appropriate guidance. Participate in the out-of-hours Theatre on-call rota where required. Provide support in other areas of the department or Hospital where required to meet service needs
