Summary

We’re looking for Education Support Workers to join our team and work at a fantastic specialist school and college in the Wigan area, supporting young people with complex learning needs.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants a role where what you do genuinely matters.

You’ll be supporting learners both in and outside the classroom, helping them to develop confidence, communication, independence and life skills, while encouraging them to achieve their potential.

The role:

• Supporting learners with a range of additional needs

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support

• Helping learners access lessons and activities

• Supporting communication, behaviour and emotional wellbeing

• Encouraging independence and life skills

• Getting involved in practical, vocational and enrichment activities

• Building strong, trusting relationships with young people

• Working closely with teachers and the wider support team

The setting has a strong child-centred approach, with learners at the heart of everything they do. There is a real focus on celebrating achievement, building confidence and preparing young people for life beyond school.

The college also offers a range of vocational pathways and life skills programmes, alongside opportunities to develop communication, teamwork and independence.

We’re looking for people who are:

• Patient, caring and approachable

• Resilient and consistent

• Confident communicating with young people

• Able to adapt their approach to individual needs

• Passionate about helping young people progress

Experience working with SEND is ideal, but we’re also keen to hear from people with transferable experience in care, youth work, support work, sports, residential settings or similar.

Successful candidates must have:

An enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one

At least two professional references, including the most recent or current employer

The right to work in the UK

A good standard of literacy and numeracy, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
