Summary
To lead and coordinate the shift To promote and maintain the highest standard of care at all times, assuming supervision of junior staff. To make primary nursing assessments and act as a named nurse to a given number of patients. Attend where possible all relevant CPA meetings. Assist with setting and monitoring of clinical standards within the immediate clinical area, ensuring measurable outcomes are achieved. Accept and participate in regular supervision with designated clinical supervisor. Facilitate clinical supervision with members of the nursing team. Keep the team leader or Ward Manager informed of any pertinent matters relating to the patients. When in charge of the shift ensuring that all necessary information is collated and related to other necessary personnel and appropriate action taken to resolve the situation. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information at all times. Delegate fairly to staff, appropriate to their ability and the workload of the ward. Familiarise and carry out procedures in accordance with local/Trust policies and procedures, eg, fire, health and safety. Maintain good order and cleanliness on the ward. Maintain safe custody of medicines and their administration in line with national/local policies and guidelines. Contribute to a systematic individualised care planning approach to patients care with the involvement of allied disciplines and modern nursing strategies. Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. Be fully conversant with the provisions of the Mental Health Act, Discharge and After Care Policies including: the Care Programme Approach, Supervision Register, Section 117 of the Mental Health Act 1983, and Supervised Discharge, Human Rights Act. Engage in pre-admission assessment of patients with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of arranging therapeutic interventions in programmes of care. Act at all times in a professional and clinically credible manner, providing effective role modelling for staff and patients. Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment. You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
