At Carter Jonas, our Infrastructure team is helping to deliver some of the UK's most significant energy, utilities, transport and regeneration projects. As demand for land referencing expertise continues to grow, we're looking for a Land Referencer to join our expanding national team.

While the team has a strong presence in Birmingham, we're open to applications from talented individuals based anywhere in the UK. Working alongside experienced land agents, surveyors, GIS specialists and infrastructure professionals, you'll play an important role in identifying and documenting land interests, supporting statutory processes and helping to deliver successful outcomes for our clients. Whether you already have land referencing experience or are looking to build on skills gained in surveying, land administration, GIS or a related discipline, you'll find excellent opportunities for development and progression at Carter Jonas.

Main Tasks

- Deliver land referencing activities across a wide range of infrastructure, energy, utilities and regeneration projects.

- Undertake ownership identification, title investigations and reconciliation of land interests using Land Registry records and other relevant data sources.

- Assist in the preparation of Books of Reference, land plans, schedules and associated statutory documentation.

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, land referencing databases and GIS datasets.

- Review and validate land ownership information, identifying and resolving discrepancies where necessary.

- Liaise with landowners, occupiers, agents, solicitors and other stakeholders to obtain and verify property information.

- Collaborate with surveyors, land agents, GIS specialists and wider project teams to support successful project delivery.

- Carry out quality assurance checks on plans, schedules and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.

- Support the ongoing development of digital land referencing systems, processes and workflows.

- Monitor project progress and contribute to the timely delivery of project outputs.

- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant legislation, industry standards and Carter Jonas procedures.

- Share knowledge and contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive team culture.

What will it take to be successful?

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accuracy with a proactive and collaborative approach. You'll have experience in land referencing, land administration, GIS, surveying or a related property or infrastructure discipline, together with a genuine interest in supporting major infrastructure projects.

You will be comfortable working with detailed ownership information and large volumes of data, while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and delivering work of a consistently high standard.

In addition, you'll bring:

- Experience within land referencing, land administration, GIS, surveying or a related field.

- An understanding of land ownership identification, title investigation and land referencing processes.

- Experience using Land Registry records and other property information sources.

- Knowledge of, or an interest in developing knowledge of, CPO, DCO, TWAO and other statutory land acquisition processes.

- Familiarity with GIS and mapping systems, or a willingness to develop these skills.

- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.

- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and an enthusiasm for learning specialist land referencing software.

- A positive, proactive attitude and a commitment to delivering excellent client service.
