The Role

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual goals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing tailored 1:1 support for individual pupils

• Supporting small-group learning interventions

• Assisting pupils with autism and additional learning needs

• Promoting communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation

• Implementing personalised support plans and intervention strategies

• Supporting positive behaviour and engagement in learning

• Adapting resources and activities to suit individual learning needs

• Encouraging independence, resilience, and self-confidence

• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils

• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and wider support staff

• Helping to maintain a calm, inclusive, and positive learning environment

Candidate Requirements

Previous SEN experience is essential.

We are seeking graduates who can demonstrate a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by pupils with additional needs and who are committed to helping them succeed.

You should possess:

• A 2:2, 2:1, or First-Class degree

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN

• Experience supporting pupils with autism and/or additional learning needs

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience

• A calm, adaptable, and professional approach

• The ability to build positive relationships quickly

• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

• A genuine passion for specialist education and inclusion

• Full right to work in the UK

Experience gained within any of the following settings would be highly desirable:

• Specialist SEN schools

• Alternative provisions

• Residential care settings

• Support worker roles

• Youth work

• Mentoring programmes

• Behaviour support services

• Children's social care
