A welcoming, community‑driven primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to join their team as soon as possible. The school has a strong pastoral culture, prioritising wellbeing, emotional development and consistent support so that every child feels safe, valued and ready to learn. Staff work collaboratively, behaviour is well‑managed, and the leadership team is committed to nurturing positive learning habits and resilience.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children's welfare, confidence and engagement.
About the Role
You will play a central part in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning - whether emotional, behavioural, social or academic. Working closely with teachers, pastoral leads and the SEN team, you will deliver targeted support that strengthens wellbeing and promotes positive behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small‑group mentoring for pupils needing additional pastoral or wellbeing support
- Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive learning behaviours
- Support emotional regulation, social skills and engagement in lessons
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and staff
- Deliver tailored interventions and track progress effectively
- Promote positive behaviour and act as a calm, consistent role model
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and external agencies
- Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding procedures at all times
What We're Looking For
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
- Degree desirable
- Experience supporting children or young people (school, mentoring, youth work or similar)
- Calm, patient and empathetic approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly
- Confidence supporting pupils with additional or complex needs
- Professional understanding of safeguarding and pastoral processes
- Available to start immediately
