SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside
Contract: Temporary, possible option of temp to perm
Full time/Part time: Full time, 8:30am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: From £109.72 per day
Start date: 1st October 2026
Expected end date: 23rd July 2027
We are currently recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants to work across a range of mainstream primary schools throughout Ashton.
We are looking for passionate, patient and experienced support staff who are confident working with children and young people with SEND and are keen to make a genuine difference in their education and development.
As an SEN TA, your role could involve working 1:1 with individual pupils, supporting small groups, delivering interventions or working as part of a specialist SEN unit within a mainstream school. The exact responsibilities will vary depending on the school, pupil needs and your own experience.
The role may include:
- Providing 1:1 support to pupils with additional needs
- Supporting pupils within small groups or intervention sessions
- Working alongside teachers to adapt and differentiate learning
- Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Working within SEN provisions or specialist units attached to mainstream schools
- Helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills
- Supporting pupils with their academic and personal development
- Building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families
- Following individual support plans and school policies
We are looking for:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND
- Experience as an SEN TA, Teaching Assistant, LSA, Support Worker or similar
- A patient, nurturing and consistent approach
- Good understanding of different additional needs and how they can impact learning
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Someone who is reliable, proactive and committed to supporting pupils
- Relevant qualifications are desirable but experience is equally valued
