SALARY: £11,608 actual annual salary (£25,614 FTE) + Benefits

LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent, Term Time Only

WORKING HOURS: 20 hours per week, 10:30am to 2:30pm Monday to Friday, 38 weeks per year

JOB OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity for a Librarian with an interest in education and literature to help create a welcoming, engaging environment that encourages students to read, learn and make full use of the resources available to them.

No previous experience is required. The Librarian will receive a comprehensive induction, support from a dedicated mentor and ongoing learning and development, making this a particularly attractive opportunity for someone looking to start a career in education or considering teaching in the future.

Working alongside curriculum and teaching colleagues, the Librarian will help students and staff use the Learning Resource Centre, manage books and other resources, support library enquiries, promote reading and organise activities including reading groups and book clubs.

You will also support the day-to-day organisation and safe operation of the centre, use library and ICT systems, prepare displays and publicity materials and provide First Aid room support when required.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Librarian include:

• Library Reception & Enquiries: Welcome students and staff, respond to enquiries and provide helpful support with available resources

• Loans & Resources: Manage loan and reference collections and help maintain an organised, accessible Learning Resource Centre

• Cataloguing & Stock: Input catalogue information, classify books and other materials and help review stock and the loan system

• Reading & Literacy: Promote reading for pleasure and help organise activities including reading groups and book clubs

• Curriculum Support: Work with teaching colleagues to encourage effective use of library resources, information-handling skills and whole-class access

• Displays & Promotion: Create displays and written or visual materials to promote books, services and events

• ICT & Technology: Support use of ICT, internet resources and technology within the centre and report equipment issues when necessary

• Safety & Security: Help maintain a safe, welcoming environment, report defects and support the security of the centre

• First Aid Support: Hold a First Aid certificate and support or deputise for the First Aid room when required

• Training & Development: Take part in relevant training and continuous professional learning

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Genuine interest in education, books, reading and literature

• Good verbal and written communication skills

• Good organisation skills with the ability to manage tasks accurately

• Friendly, helpful and confident when dealing with students, staff and visitors

• Comfortable learning library systems, ICT and other technology

• Willingness to learn, develop and undertake relevant training

• First Aid certificate

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
