About us:
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council – a unitary authority - takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to the community. RBWM is a unique borough, with huge opportunity given its proximity to London and expanding business sectors, as well as being a major cultural and tourism area which includes international attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.
Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us and we continue to rise to the challenge.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Library and Resident Services Supervisor to join our Libraries and Resident Services team.
The Role:
As a Library and Resident Contact Supervisor, you will help ensure our libraries provide a consistently high-quality, safe and welcoming service.
You will line manage frontline staff, supporting and motivating colleagues to provide excellent library, information and resident contact services. You will manage staffing and workloads across library locations and provide frontline cover when required.
A key part of the role is ensuring residents receive the right help at the right time. This could mean helping someone find their next book, answering an enquiry about council services, supporting a resident to access information online, helping someone develop their digital skills or connecting them with another council service or community organisation.
You will report to the Team Leader for Library Operations.
Your role will involve:
Managing staff performance, induction, training, probation and absence;
supporting colleagues to handle challenging or confrontational situations calmly and professionally;
overseeing the effective use and presentation of library spaces and help ensure they remain welcoming and trusted community spaces;
working with volunteers, charities, community organisations, council colleagues and other partners to broaden the support available to residents;
supporting activities and initiatives that help tackle social isolation and loneliness;
overseeing local stock management and ensure customers benefit from our physical and digital library offer;
helping promote library services, activities and spaces and identify opportunities for income generation;
supporting health and safety arrangements as a Deputy Responsible Person for Building Health and Safety (RPBS) for one or more locations; and
This is very much a hands-on supervisory position. Alongside managing people and services, you should be comfortable stepping onto the frontline and working directly with residents whenever the service needs you.
