Summary
The Yard Operative plays a key role in supporting the smooth operation of the yard by managing materials, ensuring safe working practices, and supporting teams with loading/unloading, stock control, and site housekeeping.
Loading & Unloading:
• Safely load and unload materials, equipment, and deliveries using appropriate handling methods (including telehandler or forklift if trained).
Stock Control & Organisation:
• Receive, check, and store incoming & outgoing goods. Keep materials well-organised and assist in stock counts and audits.
• Use of scanner
Yard Maintenance:
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the yard area. Ensure any hazards or damaged infrastructure is reported
• Waste Management
Supporting Operations:
• Prepare orders or materials for crews or engineers. Assist with collecting and dispatching stock in a timely manner.
Equipment Checks:
• Carry out pre-use checks of handling equipment and report defects or maintenance issues.
Compliance & Safety:
• Follow all company health and safety procedures, including COSHH, PPE usage, vehicle movements, and manual handling standards.
Team Collaboration:
• Communicate effectively with Yard Supervisor, Operatives, Engineers and other departments to meet operational needs.
