Summary

For pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, progress can look very different.

It might be communicating a choice, responding to a sensory activity, developing greater physical independence or participating in something new.

A specialist SEND school in Birmingham is looking for a compassionate and dependable Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join its team as soon as possible.

You'll support children and young people with PMLD, complex physical disabilities and additional health and care needs, helping them access education while receiving the individual support they need throughout their school day.

Working alongside teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals and other support staff, you'll provide personalised support based around each pupil's individual needs.

Your role will include:

- Providing one-to-one and small-group support.

- Helping pupils access personalised learning and sensory activities.

- Supporting communication, interaction and engagement.

- Following EHCP targets and individual care plans.

- Providing personal care with dignity and respect.

- Supporting mobility, positioning and transfers where required.

- Following therapy and physical-development programmes.

- Encouraging pupils to make choices and develop independence.

- Observing progress and communicating effectively with the wider team.

- Following safeguarding, health and safety procedures at all times.

Experience with PMLD, complex needs or physical disabilities would be particularly valuable, whether gained within education, healthcare, residential care or support work.

You'll need to be comfortable providing personal care and supporting pupils with physical needs.

We're looking for someone who is:

- Patient, caring and dependable.

- Comfortable providing individualised personal care.

- Able to recognise and respond to different communication needs.

- Confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

- Willing to undertake Manual Handling and other relevant training.

- Committed to supporting pupils with dignity while encouraging as much independence as possible.

An Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and relevant pre-employment checks will be required.

This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, giving you the chance to become part of the school community and potentially progress into a permanent position.
