Summary
SEND Learning Support Assistant - Halton
Location: Halton, Runcorn
Pay: £95-£105 per day
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: ASAP
We're looking for a compassionate and motivated SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming school in Halton for an immediate start.
For children and young people with additional needs, the right support can make an enormous difference. It can help them feel more comfortable in the classroom, communicate their needs, participate in activities and gradually become more confident in what they can achieve.
That's where you come in.
You'll become part of the school's wider support team, working with pupils who may have a range of special educational needs, learning difficulties, communication needs or social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, you'll get to know individual pupils and adapt your support around what works best for them.
Your responsibilities will vary depending on the pupils you're supporting, but could include:
- Providing individual and small-group support during lessons.
- Helping pupils understand instructions and complete learning activities.
- Breaking tasks down into smaller, achievable steps.
- Supporting communication and interaction.
- Encouraging pupils to participate in classroom and school activities.
- Helping children manage routines, changes and transitions.
- Providing calm support when a pupil becomes overwhelmed or dysregulated.
- Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop appropriate coping strategies.
- Supporting social skills, friendships and interaction with peers.
- Helping pupils develop greater confidence and independence.
- Assisting with physical or personal-care needs where appropriate.
- Working alongside teachers, SEND staff and other professionals.
- Observing progress and sharing useful information with colleagues.
You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional route into education.
Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEND Support Worker, Care Assistant, Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker could all provide useful transferable skills.
Previous experience supporting children or young people with additional needs would be particularly valuable.
Just as importantly, you'll need to be someone who is:
- Patient and understanding.
- Calm when situations become challenging.
- Able to build positive and appropriate relationships.
- Reliable and consistent.
- Comfortable adapting your approach to different pupils.
- Willing to listen, learn and work as part of a team.
- Passionate about helping young people achieve more for themselves.
In SEND support, success isn't always measured by completing a worksheet or achieving a particular grade.
It could be a pupil joining an activity they previously avoided, communicating what they need, managing a difficult transition or completing something with less adult support than they needed yesterday.
As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to those achievements every day.
This opportunity offers:
- £95-£105 per day.
- Immediate / ASAP start.
- Full-time work within a supportive school.
- Experience supporting a variety of additional needs.
- Opportunities to develop your SEND knowledge and practical skills.
- Ongoing support and professional development.
- Valuable experience for anyone considering a longer-term career in education, SEND, pastoral support or care.
If you're looking for a SEND Learning Support Assistant role in Halton and you're ready to start making a difference straight away, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply today with your CV for an ASAP start.
