Summary

To plan, co-ordinate and implement endoscopy sessions appropriate to service needs. Ensures that an accurate medical and nursing history is carried out and recorded which encompasses appropriate tests and investigations. Evaluate provision of endoscopy service by means of audit and initiate changes as appropriate. To assist in setting and monitoring standards of care and ensure that nursing practice is audited and research/evidence based. To assist in developing a learning environment that is appropriate for the development needs of trained and untrained staff. To facilitate in the development of a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. To provide clinical expertise and advice to other staff and facilitate training and development to the multi-disciplinary team where appropriate. To support and promote an integrated approach to quality, which will include infection control, health promotion and education. To ensure effective communication between wards/departments/consultants/outpatients department. To ensure patients are effectively pre-optimised prior to procedures facilitating the efficient flow of patients through the department. To be proactive within and support the modernisation of Endoscopy services in line with the National Endoscopy programme. To work flexibly and be adaptable to new ways of working. There will be a requirement to meet service needs. To work collaboratively with the Endoscopy staff, Nurse Endoscopists, Clinicians and Colorectal team and other key stakeholders to provide a seamless pathway of care for Endoscopy patients as well as other specialties.
