Summary

Key Duties: Provision of support and advice to local, regional and national colleagues in NHS, UKHSA, DHSC, non-health government departments, and non-governmental organizations re travel and international health regulations Policy and protocol development in relation to travel health Design and provision of teaching for a variety of individuals, institutions and stakeholders as required about travel health and international health regulations Liaison with UKHSA communications to develop media messages about travel health and imported infection Response to queries from a variety of stakeholders as required, including Parliamentary Questions Identification of research areas to improve the evidence base in guiding public health action to protect and improve the health of travellers Oversight of production of peer reviewed publications in travel health relevant topics Lead for maintenance and further development of travel health relevant content on the .GOV website Contribution to IHR out of hours rota Additional Duties The post holder may after agreement (which should not reasonably be withheld), be required to undertake other duties as required, which fall within the grading of this post, to meet the needs of the service. The post holder will participate in Travel Health and IHR section quality improvement programmes including clinical audit plus training and support to junior staff. Professional Development Identify, discuss and action own professional performance and training / development needs with your line manager through appraisal / individual development plan. Attending internal / external training events To participate in all mandatory training as required, i.e. fire safety, information governance and all other mandatory training. The Consultant will be expected to: Participate in the organisations appraisal scheme including the professional appraisal scheme and ensure appraisal and development of any staff for which s/he is responsible Contribute actively to the training programme for Foundation Year Doctors/Specialty Registrars in Public Health as appropriate, and to the training of practitioners and primary care professionals within the locality Pursue a programme of CPD, in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements, or other recognised body, and undertake revalidation, audit or other measures required to remain on the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register or other specialist register as appropriate Complete all Civil Service mandatory training as required, e.g. fire safety, information governance, counter-fraud, bribery and corruption Please refer to the Job Description for a more comprehensive list of duties andresponsibilities. This role is being offered as hybrid working based at our Scientific Campus in Colindale. As a hybrid worker, you will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of your contractual working hours (approximately 3 days a week pro rata, (averaged over a month) working at our campus. Security Clearance Level Requirement Based at our scientific campus, you will be required to have a minimum of a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. UK residency less than the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice. Salary Information If you are successful at interview, and are moving from another government department, NHS, or Local Authority, the relevant starting salary principles for level transfers or promotions will apply. Otherwise, roles are offered at the pay scale minimum for the grade, but in exceptional circumstances there may be flexibility if you are able to demonstrate you are already in receipt of an existing, higher salary. Pay increases are through the relevant annual pay award for the role and terms. The successful candidate will be appointed to the point of the Consultant salary scale appropriate to their years of seniority.
