Based within the Environmental Health team, you will be expected to carry out Food Law functions within East Renfrewshire’s geographical boundaries, with the aim of providing the highest achievable standard of environmental protection and public health care.
You must have/ or be working towards achieving the Higher Certificate in Food Practice, as awarded by the Scottish Food Safety Officers’ Registration Board or have or be working towards the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health. Students sitting the REHIS professionals for FSO/EHO in September 2026 will also be suitable for interview.
You will carry out food law enforcement, including inspecting premises, creating sampling programs, taking samples, enforcement duties, as well as promoting the section to the public, elected members and other partners. For newly qualified officers/ officers presently in other non-food sections, training and support will be given. In post, you will have an opportunity to obtain the appropriate Continual Professional Development (CPD).
From time to time some evening and weekend work will be expected to cover some out of hour’s aspects. In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills. As the section is small, we rely on a good team working relationship, an ability to swap workloads and to help cover holidays.
Hybrid employees are considered workplace based first, but they will have a level of flexibility to work from home up to 40% of their working week, if it is not to the detriment of their current tasks, team requirements or service needs.
