Summary

Are you an empathetic and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant committed to making a positive impact? We are looking for a compassionate individual to join our collaborative team in Dorking, focusing on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH).

In this role, you will partner with teachers to provide structured 1:1 and small group intervention, assisting students in overcoming emotional obstacles, re-engaging with their education, and establishing strong relationships within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.

  • Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.

  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

  • Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.

  • Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.

  • Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualifications:

    GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard). Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.

  • Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.

  • Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.

  • High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.
