Summary

As Assistant General Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operational leadership of our Haematology Service, one of the most specialised and dynamic areas within the Cancer Services Division. Working across a diverse portfolio of services spanning both malignant and non-malignant haematology, including stem cell and bone marrow transplantation, coagulation disorders and red cell disorders, you will help shape the delivery of outstanding patient care for some of the most complex and vulnerable patient groups in the NHS.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and motivated leader to develop their operational management career within a highly respected multidisciplinary team at the forefront of haematology care. The role combines operational oversight with strategic planning, workforce leadership and the delivery of transformational service improvement initiatives. You will work closely with senior clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals and corporate colleagues to drive service performance, improve patient experience and support the development of innovative models of care.

Success in this role will depend on ability to build strong and effective relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, including consultants, specialty registrars, clinical nurse specialists, ward teams and senior managers.

- Lead the day-to-day operational management of a specialist Haematology Service within the Cancer Services Division.

- Support services across malignant and non-malignant haematology, including stem cell transplantation, coagulation and red cell disorders.

- Contribute to the delivery of high-quality care for complex patient groups.

- Combine operational leadership, strategic planning and workforce management responsibilities.

- Lead and support service improvement and transformation projects.

- Work collaboratively with a wide multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals and corporate colleagues.

- Drive service performance, patient experience and innovation in care delivery.

- Build strong relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation.

- Provide visible, approachable leadership in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

- Gain experience in complex operational challenges, strategic decision-making and service development within a nationally recognised haematology service.

Lead the operational management and strategic development of a specialist Haematology Service within the Cancer Services Division, supporting a broad portfolio of malignant and non-malignant haematology services, including stem cell transplantation, coagulation and red cell disorders. The role combines operational leadership, workforce management and service planning to ensure the delivery of high-quality care for patients with complex needs. Responsibilities include driving service performance, patient experience, innovation and transformation initiatives, while managing complex HR matters and workforce challenges. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders across the organisation, the postholder provides visible and effective leadership, contributes to strategic decision-making, and supports the continued development of a nationally recognised haematology service.
