Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Auditor to join an Internal Audit Service, delivering risk-based assurance and consultancy across a varied portfolio of complex and sensitive engagements.
You will undertake risk-based internal audits, assess risks and controls, gather and evaluate evidence, provide clear assurance opinions and make practical recommendations. The role will also involve researching emerging risks, providing high-level advice and supporting complex investigations, including fraud and irregularities where required.
A strong opportunity for an experienced auditor who can operate confidently at a senior level and provide high-quality, practical assurance in a complex local government environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver risk-based audits across complex, technical, political and sensitive areas.
Identify and evaluate key risks, assess controls and undertake appropriate testing.
Produce clear verbal and written audit findings, assurance opinions and recommendations.
Manage audit assignments to agreed timescales and budgets.
Research emerging risks and provide professional advice on governance, risk and controls.
Undertake investigations and, where required, provide evidence to disciplinary, police or court proceedings.
Work effectively with senior stakeholders within a local government environment.
Essential Requirements
CCAB-qualified accountant, CMIIA qualified, or equivalent relevant professional qualification/experience.
Strong experience delivering risk-based internal audits, particularly involving complex, technical or sensitive issues.
Thorough knowledge of internal audit techniques, risk management and corporate governance.
Good understanding of the political, financial and operational environment of local government.
Ability to work effectively within corporate, policy and financial constraints.
Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with strong stakeholder/customer focus.
Commitment to CPD and continuous professional development.
